NA President Asks Thailand to Better Support Cambodian Migrant Workers

PHNOM PENH: National Assembly President Khuon Sodary, asked the Prime Minister of Thailand, Srettha Thavisin, to provide more support to Cambodian workers living and working in Thailand while acknowledging Thailand’s care for Cambodian workers in the past.

On September 28, the Thai PM paid a courtesy call to the National Assembly, where he talked business with NA President Khuon Sodary to further cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments. The Cambodian National Assembly asked for its Thai counterpart’s assistance in upgrading the legislative body’s technological capabilities, as Thailand’s National Assembly has more experience with digital technology.

Khuon Sodary thanked the Thai government for facilitating jobs and good working conditions for Cambodian migrant workers, as well as protecting their rights. She requested that Thailand increase its attention to the livelihoods of Cambodians living there.

The National Assembly’s spokesperson, Keo Piseth, announced that the proposal was accepted by the Thai PM and said, "[The president asked] to continue to consider Cambodian workers more because our parliament works for the people. To get elected, we have to work to serve the people."

The Thai PM congratulated Khuon Sodary on being the first woman to lead Cambodia’s National Assembly and called her a role model for Thailand to learn from. He mentioned important developments made in his talks with Prime Minister Hun Manet regarding social and economic trade, in addition to maintaining peace and development while border demarcation continues between the two countries.

Khuon Sodary congratulated the Thai PM on his successful visit to Cambodia which produced outcomes that will further strengthen and expand a partnership of friendship, solidarity and good cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of both countries and their people.
